Make me attentive to the moment in the sermon that is about me, and grant me the grace to live each day of my life attentive to your Word speaking to me in myriad ways. Gracious God, help me to be open to an encounter with your living Word through the words of the preacher. May I listen well enough to hear what you would have me say, and together may we find the words to bring your good news to those yearning to hear it. Make my unworthy words worthy, my poor offering rich. A prayer for Sermon Writingĭear God, I offer this sermon to you, and I ask that you grant me the grace to put such grace into words help me, an imperfect being, speak of perfection help me, a fallen being, speak of the one who has arisen. The other half is your interaction with it. So, what you have here is half the raw material for the preaching moment. Preaching happens when the words of the sermon and the attention of the listener mingle. A sermon is like looking at a musical score, while preaching is like listening to the music. Here are (almost) all of my sermons going back to 2008.
